Offerings: Ecstatic Dance & Cacao Ceremony

What is Ecstatic Dance?

Ecstatic Dance is a moving meditation and an energetic journey through the chakras. The dance is slightly guided, but with a focus on natural and intuitive movements that are inspired from within. The eyes are closed, or in a soft gaze, and the awareness goes inward. It is a beautiful and freeing opportunity to go beyond the thinking mind and to merge in oneness with the dance. As dancers, our job is not to judge the music or even listen to the music with the physical ears, but instead to feel into how the music moves us. The safe and conscious environment allows you to be completely free, to let go of any masks and release any stagnant energy in your body.

About the Practice

The practice begins with grounding and centering breath work accompanied by a constant drum beat. This encourages you to bring your full awareness and presence to the moment and to let go of any mental distractions.

We then begin to awaken the body, either standing or on the floor, with gentle stretching movements. These slow songs are a conscious way to warm up the entire body in a way that suits the needs of your body in that very movement. This includes rolling the neck and shoulders, moving the hips and rib cage in all directions, stretching the arms, and even doing some yoga postures. We continue to focus on our breath and bringing fresh prana or life force energy into our body, mind and spirit.

Once the body is awakened and energy is flowing, we break out into ecstatic dance with a journey through the chakras. Specific music is selected which resonates with the energy of each chakra from tribal music, songs that make you want to move your hips and open your heart and finally songs that remind us of our connection and unity with Source. As we dance, we focus our energy on the element, colour, and qualities of each chakra.

The entire practice, including the warm up, building up of inner fire, and the cool down with Savasana and Integration is 75 minutes.

“Dance, when you’re broken open. Dance, if you’ve torn the bandage off.  Dance when you’re perfectly free.” Rumi

Ecstatic Dance is also offered with a beautiful authentic cacao ceremony with sageing, drumming and rattling. The superfood cacao is a perfect match for the dance as it allows us to relax into the body, open the heart, release inhibition to to connect with the beautiful energy that surrounds us and that which is within.
