Farm of Life, nestled in the middle of the jungle at the top of a mountain, makes it the ideal location for our ReWild & ReConnect Retreat (it is literally at the end of the gravel road!). Daily Morning Meditation & Yoga overlooking the jungle and pacific ocean in the distance! The practice is for all levels and includes gentle hatha, chakra flow and restorative yoga.

Daily Transformational Women’s Circle. Each day will have a different theme as we explore, reawaken and welcome home different aspects of the Liberated Woman. Through a variety of practices rooted in ancient feminine womb wisdom, we will be calling upon our inner Wild Woman, and inner Goddess of love, beauty, compassion, strength, wisdom and sensuality. Time to Set that Life Intention

It’s our personal human nature to set goals and intentions, to want to be somebody, to get somewhere in this life we have been given.

Recently, I learned that the word intention (a word I use quite often) comes from the latin root, intendere. Tender/tensum means “to stretch toward” something, and it got me thinking, “why do we always want to be stretching toward something ?

When it comes to goal/intention setting in various areas of our life, we like to “move toward” a somewhat immediate result, perhaps in the time frame of a few months to a year. We talk about that advancement or raise at work; or a health goal like training for a 5km race, losing weight, meditating daily or quitting smoking.

As for the inside job, maybe we are trying to be more patient with loved ones, to speak more confidently during a business meeting, or to become a better listener with our partner.

Long term goals are definitely not alien to us either—think 5 or 10 year plans for buying a house, starting a family, paying off school debt, etc. Whether we reach the goal or not, we typically have a type of reward or finish line in mind.

When we set a goal that we want to meet, we put our full focus, will power and determination into it—at least in the beginning  We may even become over obsessive or addicted to our goal and witness it as it becomes all we think or talk about (but not necessarily in the most mindful way).

Society has definitely conditioned us to be goal oriented “human doings,” but what about a non goal goal, like an intention for life?

I don’t mean accomplishing x,y,z by the time we are 90 years old, but rather taking time to contemplate how it is we want to “be” in our life, vs what we “do.”

For example, a personal “life” intention of mine is to live with grace and to serve the greatest Good; to live a holistic and harmonious life with this body, mind, spirit, nature and all Beings. I want to live for the joy of Being, not because that is a goal, but it’s who I am, it’s my natural state.

As I started to keep more focus on the Highest, most Supreme, Grand intentions, my life started to have more purpose. Of course there a mini intentions set within this, yet the main focus does not lie there.

By taking some time to journal and sit in stillness, we can allow ideas for this “life intention” to arise. From here, we can start to ask ourselves questions like “does my lifestyle support my highest goal?”, “Do the people I surround myself with align with my dharma (a term used in Buddhism to mean life purpose)?”, “Am I acting in every moment from this place of intention with every word I speak and action I take?”

Living a more purposeful life does have not to mean traveling the world, become famous or driving our dream car… but it definitely can also mean that!

The doing, the collecting of things and successful accomplishments will simply unfold with time (that is this life!). Me, there person, will be acting out my life plan, as mySelf bears witness.

What’s going to keep us grounded in truth, focussed on love and thriving with grace is the embodiment (walking our talk!) of this life intention in each and every moment.

It’s when we recognise our Highest Self and live from a place of pure naturalness and spontaneity, as the yogis call Sahaja, that we will feel fully free.

Chocolate, Meditation and Love Aphrodisiacs

It’s time to up your chocolate consumption. Say goodbye to milk chocolate and hello to pure raw chocolate in the form of superfood drinks {elixirs}, smoothies and sweet desserts {bliss balls}.

Anandamide, the bliss molecule, is found in raw cacao (a.k.a chocolate) and is pronounced as ca-cow not coco. This natural pleasure boosting compound is released when we are feeling good and induces the same euphoric feeling as a runner’s “high” – minus the sprints and squats!

If you are looking for a boost, (mood or libido!), consider adding this superfood to your diet. Cacao is high in the amino acid tryptophan, which is key for the production of dopamine and serotonin – a natural mood stabiliser.

It even releases natural endorphins and compounds like theobromine and phenylethylamine (PEA) which gives us the natural “high” we feel when we are in love.

Cacao, known as the Food of the Gods by the Aztecs, comes from a plant native to Costa Rica (where it was once used as local currency). It is the highest antioxidant food in the world, along with chaga, maca, acai and goji berries.

The nutritional profile for this favourite treat is extraordinary. It is the highest source of the mineral magnesium – important for heart health and extremely beneficial for women, especially during their moon cycle. The pure of chocolate is also very high in iron, potassium, calcium, B vitamins and copper; promotes longevity and even weight loss.

Choose cacao in its pure raw form (vs baking cocoa), as many of these health compounds can be damaged by heating and over processing. If you can’t get your hands on a ethically sourced 100% chocolate bar, I recommend raw cacao powder. Other options include cacao beans and nibs.

Are you already excited about bringing more chocolate back into your life? Now, consider combining it with certain foods to increase its aphrodisiac effects.

We begin with Maca, also known as Peruvian Ginseng. This superfood root veggie, grown in the high altitudes of the Andes, helps you adapt to stress and promotes long lasting energy…especially during love making!

Next, we do like the Mayans! In traditional Mayan “heart opening” cacao ceremonies, warming spices like cinnamon, ginger, clove, cardamom and cayenne have always been utilised. These spices don’t only warm up your digestion, but can spice up your love life too.

Fun fact: hot peppers open the blood vessels and allow you to absorb the benefits of the cacao and maca even more. Vanilla bean relaxes the body, which is important for all aspects of life, and is traditionally grown along side the cacao plant.

Start using this powder in your chocolate love potions, morning smoothies, kids hot chocolates and any dessert that calls for cocoa.

Through a regular meditation practice, we begin to feel content and whole in the present moment, and no longer look to our partner to “complete” us.

Recipe : The Aphrodisiac Hot Chocolate

Serves 2 

2.5 cups Chai Tea, hot and brewed

4 heaping tbsp of raw cacao powder

1 heaping tbsp organic coconut oil

1 tsp maca

1 tsp cinnamon

1 tbsp maple syrup, raw honey or 3 Medjool dates

1/2 tsp vanilla extract or powder

a small piece of ginger root

a pinch of cayenne

2 tbsp hemp seeds

Blend until well combined and super deliciously frothy! If you like, top with  additional superfoods like cacao nibs, bee pollen, hemp seeds or goji berries,  Enjoy at your own risk. Warning: may induce a state of euphoria and bliss!

This is not the time to set goals or intentions, to travel and explore the outer beauty of this Earth, to connect with friends and loved ones,  or to come up with my next inspiring idea.

There is a time for all of that, but this is not it.

This is scheduled time to do absolutely nothing. To travel and explore the inner realm of my Being. “Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10

To sit with myself, for 14 days…without any distraction. No words to be spoken, no facebook, instagram, netflix, emails to answers, friends to connect with, work to be done, meals to prepare, clothing and dishes to wash…

This is the time to surrender into the stillness of my True Nature. To stare out into nature (and in this case out at volcanos on a lake!). To witness the thoughts, emotions, irritations, joy that comes up and not react to it, to identify with it as mine, or do anything with it.  I will watch it all pass through me as a part of my experience and see them as a clouds passing by, and then come back to the blue sky. There is nothing to achieve. No experience to acquire. Nothing to add to my spiritual CV.

This is a gift to my highest self. Although every moment is an opportunity to live as Presence or the Witness Consciousness of our human experience, going into retreat really gives you that opportunity to really surrender, be still and be ok with that… (if not you will go crazy!).

Just “being” for 14 days, trusting the process and inviting in whatever wants to arise for me with no where to run, no words to express my drama, no phone to grab…Just “hanging out” with my True Self.

For the past 4 years, I have participated in one silent meditation retreat per year ranging from 6 to ten days. The retreats have had a daily schedule, were done in a group setting and have been guided by teachers. This retreat will be solo, self guided, and therefor calling on an opportunity to cultivate self discipline to sit in meditation for 1, 2, 3 and 4 hours or more a day. I will also do some gentle yoga practices to move my body and take one hour a day to read on various spiritual teachings inspired by the Masters… did I mention i’ll be in a tree house!

Why do I continue to do this? It is so important for me to challenge myself with this style of retreat to continue to connect with that eternal place in me that is Truth and Love. To continue to remove the layers of masks and societal conditioning that still remain which blind me from living freely and authentically. When teaching yoga and meditation, hosting wellness retreats and holding space in sacred women’s groups, etc, it is crucial that I remain grounded in the Self (vs the ego) and committed to my path.

I can only take people as far as I myself have gone. My true role and purpose is to inspire by living as an example. An example of the teachings and a way of living consciously from the heart.img_5581

This retreat will present a new layer…Kayakalpa, the dark room. I will finish my retreat with 5 days in complete darkness…back to the womb I go! Not only will I be silent, but my sense of sight will also have no distraction. This is going to be an intense time.. both of challenge, perhaps fear, but also of deep deep healing. I have no idea what to expect… I’m surrendering into the Mystery and Trusting Divine Will. I can’t explain to you why I want to do this, but ever since I heard about it 4 years ago, it resonated and I knew the opportunity would unfold in divine timing. Next week, I move into silence in this self guided silent meditation retreat at The Hermitage Retreat Centre nestled on Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. I will begin on the full moon, and as the moons wanes (shrinks) back to newness and darkness, I shall do the same. Releasing anything that no longer serves me.

My Daily Routine: The Divine Light Invocation {Spiritual Body}

Each morning, as soon as I get up, I go stand outside in the grass barefoot. I connect with nature around me, and find a place where I can stand in the light of the sun. Even when it is not sunny out, I use my mind eye to visualize the light. I start each day off with the Divine Light Invocation.

I enjoy this practice because it is absolutely incredible to connect with nature first thing each morning. It is also an amazing reminder, that I am not merely this physical body or these thoughts, I am light, a channel of consciousness and that I can use this light to heal myself and others in the world.

I have found this to be a powerful tool for change and spiritual transformation. I use it as one of my daily prayers. It only takes a few minutes and it is a simple way to invoke Spirit into my day.

I was 24 years old when I first experienced living in Community. In the summer of 2011, I spent a few weeks at the Yasodhara Ashram in Kootenay Lake, BC, as a part of the Young Adult Karma Yoga Program. Karma yoga, or selfless service, is the yoga  of action; taking what you learn on your mat and applying out into the world through service…think Mother Theresa, Gandhi or Martin Luther King..they were karma yogis.

Each day, before completing a new task, we would perform the Divine Light Invocation. The Divine Light invocation was a fundamental practice of the Ashram. It is a beautiful reminder that we are channels or spirit; we are not the doer of the task (as much as we would like to think that). We consecrate the efforts of the task, to the greater good…and see everything as an offering. When we offer it up,  we are not attached to the outcome of the project, we simply do our best, with awareness. We go beyond our personal likes, dislikes, preferences or ego and we offer up the fruit of our action.

Performing the Divine Light Invocation..

You can print the invocation below and read it the first few times until you understand the idea behind it.

Stand erect, feet shoulder-width apart. Relax your breathing, your head, face, and neck. Keep the eyes closed and focus them on the space between the eyebrows.

Picture above you a vast ocean of pure white, colourless Light . . . stretching in all directions, into eternity. Imagine some of that Light pouring down around you, bathing you completely in Light.

Exhale and slowly inhale, lifting your arms above your head as you smoothly and gradually tense the whole body.

Holding your breath, affirm to yourself with all the concentration possible:

I am created by Divine LightI am sustained by Divine Light

I am protected by Divine Light

I am surrounded by Divine Light

I am ever growing into Divine Light.

 

Exhale, gradually relax, and lower your arms slowly.

Now use your imagination to see yourself standing in a shower of brilliant white Light.

See the Light pouring down upon you, and see a stream of that Light flowing into the body through the top of the head, filling your entire being with Light . . . as if you were a transparent vessel, being filled with liquid Light. 

Maintaining this image, now with the arms at your sides, exhale, inhale and tense your body. Hold the breath and the tension, and again affirm,

I am created by Divine LightI am sustained by Divine Light

I am protected by Divine Light

I am surrounded by Divine Light

I am ever growing into Divine Light

Slowly exhale and relax.

Concentrate on the feeling of the Light. Feel the warm glow of Divine Light suffuse your entire body, outside as well as inside.

Acknowledge silently to yourself:

“Every cell of this my physical body is filled with Divine Light;Every level of my consciousness is illumined with Divine Light.

The Divine Light penetrates every single cell of my being,

Every level of consciousness.

I have become a channel of pure Light.

The Divine Light Invocation is an exercise of will, as well as an act of surrender. Be receptive to the Light, and accept that you are now a channel of Divine Light.

Express your gratitude with deep feeling and having a desire to share this gift with someone whom you wish to help, turn your palms forward.

Continuing to see yourself filling and overflowing with Light, mentally open wide the doors of your spiritual heart centre and let the Light stream forth from your heart centre, forming a clockwise spiral before you which reaches up to rejoin the source of Light above.

Into the spiral of Light, place any projects and concerns that you may have. Envision them as you would like to see them, not as you fear they are. See the Light encircle them, enveloping them completely . . . and see the spiral moving high into the sky, taking the images with them. See them merge into the source of Light and become One with the Light, received by Light.

See someone that you would like to help standing before you – or the image of a woman, a man, and a child you don’t know, representing all those in need of Light at this moment – in the spiral of Light. This can be yourself, if you feel in need of Light. See them healthy, happy, whole, and strong.

See the Light stream forth towards the feet of this person. The Light encircles them and spirals upward in a clockwise direction, enveloping the body completely, and filling them with radiant pure white Light. See them filled with Light, wrapped in Light, receiving everything they need from the Light.

See the spiral moving high up into the sky, taking this image along with it. See this person merge into the source of the Light and become One with the Light, blessed by the Light.

Now relax. Bring your hands together at your heart centre in a gesture of deep gratitude for the gift of the Light, and the ability to share it.

Lacey’s Tips for Daily Detox

We ladies know how to do it! 10 inspiring women  started off 2015 by setting intention, reflecting, finding quiet time and nourishing our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies. From morning meditation, to afternoon veggie juice and evening detox bowl, all the ladies were glowing before heading back home where they could begin to integrate the tools and techniques. I feel so blessed that I was able to offer a New Year’s Detox Retreat in Espanola… it was the perfect way to start the year!

Saturday afternoon I presented a 90 minute holistic workshop on Daily Detox and Digestion. Here is a summary of what we talked about…everything from dandelion tea and eye cleansing, to tongue scraping and food combining…and no topic was off limits!

Lacey’s 10 tips for daily detox

1. Start each day with a glass of warm water and the juice of half a lemon to stimulate the gallbladder, liver and the digestive system..hello regularity! Add  a pinch of cayenne if you wanna live on the edge!

2. Drink a minimum of 2 litres of purified water daily to promote detox and hydration. To make the water more alkalzing (and delicious), add fresh herbs like basil and mint as well as fruit like orange slices, lemon or berries.

3. Re-create your morning routine to include cleansing exercises (kriyas) such as oil pulling, tongue scraping, netti pot and eye cleansing.

“Eyes are the most used organs of our body. We perceive our world with our eyes, and they also are the most over-used from being locked into our laptops to our cell phone to TV screens. The eyes then, lack energy and release heat, crying for relief, and cooling. Eye cleansing process cleanses the eyes by removing external dust particle, body heat and secretions of the eyes that come in the way of normal movement of the eye lid helps that irritate the eyes. This process helps in having clear vision, reduces itching, eye strain and burning eyes. It cools the eyes and keeps fresh. Most essentially, it cools the body very powerful, energizing the eyes and improve the vision. It even reduces under eye bags.

4. Practice dry brushing before you take a shower to stimulate the lymphatic system and cleanse the skin (the body’s largest detoxification organ). Once you’re in the shower, alternate between hot and cold water to improve circulation. Always end with cool water.

5. Exercise, sweat and spend time in nature! This will not only help the body detox but also improves overall mood and well being.

6. Incorporate proper digestion techniques like food combining, drinking liquids in between meals, eating when calm, and chewing slowly!

7. Eat local and seasonally to maximize nutrients and choose organic to reduce intake of toxins and chemicals.

8. Eat more raw foods, green foods and juices! These foods are nutrient dense, alkalizing (PH balancing) and contain all the enzymes needed for digestion. Enjoy 1 raw meal per day or work toward 50% raw at each meal.

9. Re-balance your gut health for overall immunity. Take digestive enzymes which include amylase, protease, cellulase and lipase to improve digestion and absorption as well as a probiotic supplement (10 billion minimum). Include fermented foods like kimchi, saurkraut, kefir and kombucha.

10. Meditate! Sit down every single day even if it’s for 5 minutes. Sit tall and comfortable with eyes gently closed; bring your awareness to your breath. Count the breath to help with concentration. As thoughts arise, simply recognize them without labeling or judging and come back to your breath. Cleansing the mental body is key in promoting longevity and reducing stress.

Start slowly and create a new routine. Even if you add one of these each day, it is a step forward toward cleansing your mind and body.
